Little Red Bus goes green

On 2 July 2007, Little Red Bus was nominated and received an award through the Community Section of the 2007 Bafters (Best Action for the Environment Road Show) for an 'Outstanding Achievement Award for Energy Action'.

Harrogate District Community Transport works to provide accessible transport services to the community. In doing so the organisation aims to identify ways of reducing the number of cars on the road by optimising journeys, thereby ensuring safer and more environmentally friendly transport solutions.

Harrogate District Community Transport moved to new premises in August 2006 and launched the ‘Little Red Bus Goes Green’ project. The new premises have been converted with primary consideration given to energy efficiency. With energy efficient lighting systems, extra insulation and a rainwater harvesting system attached to a bio-diesel fuelled pressure washer, Harrogate District Community Transport is working towards reducing its carbon footprint and acting as a demonstration project for other organisations.

Funding has also been received and an order placed for a biomass boiler.
