On 2July 2007, Little Red Bus was nominated and received an award through the Community Section of the 2007 Bafters (Best Action for the Environment Road Show) for an ‘Outstanding Achievement Award for Energy Action’.
Saving the environment is one of the primary motivations of the Little Red Bus network. The network partners are actively working to reduce their carbon footprint by using renewable energy sources where possible.
All schemes have ensured that every measure has been taken to minimise the energy needs of office buildings by maximising the use of insulation and efficient lighting systems.
Harrogate District Community Transport has secured funding for the installation of a biomass boiler system which will provide all of its hot water and heating requirements. Plans are also in place for the installation of a wind turbine to generate the building's electricity.
Bentham Community Transport has joined 'Clapham Community Co-operative Ltd', a biodiesel project, and is looking to lead the way by piloting this cleaner fuel.
